The Real Meaning of Christmas

Everyone’s excited for this season to come! We always plan events and gatherings each year to make it memorable. We spend a lot of money to buy precious gifts for family and friends, and we make a lot of efforts to prepare delicious foods for visitors. We won’t also forget to buy beautiful decors and lights to complete its ambiance. But Christmas is more than that!

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Christmas is a Christian holiday that is celebrated on every December 25th of the year in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ. It is the precious day of our Savior, who was born to save us all. It is not just a typical birthday celebration, but it was a remarkable day to celebrate the love of God towards us, His people, and the life that He brought to the whole earth.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus Christ was born for us; to share the gospel, to love us, to bring peace, to give us joy, to save us and to bring light to this world full of darkness. And it was a selfless act that He endured the pain and died on the cross to gave us life – the everlasting life.

In this kind of season, we are expecting to receive a lot of gifts from people we love. We always wanted to receive our wishlists from the people we have known and worked with. But this year, we did the other way around, we GAVE LOVE ON CHRISTMAS DAY!

The G.I.G. Show team, my entire family and with the help of our sponsors, gave a P250 WORTH GIFT-PACKAGE to 100 LESS FORTUNATE FAMILIES nearby (Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu) last December 17, 2016, at SM Hypermarket Tamiya. These families were picked from our list of regular attendees of GIG Show, selected families from Brgy. Basak and Brgy. Canjulao, and the surrenders from the Tuk-hang operation (drug victims/users). It was our way of sharing the good news towards them; the love of Jesus Christ to each and every one of us. It was a great feeling and fulfillment for us that we blessed other people and brought joy to their hearts!

Moreover, we were able to gather more than 200 attendees who actively joined us that night. We prepared a LIVE ACOUSTIC CHRISTMAS CAROLS that brought the spirit of Christmas, fun GAMES most especially to kids, RAFFLE ITEMS that added excitement to everyone, FREE VISAYAN BIBLES and FREE SNACKS for everybody!

Pastor Rhony (my father) also shared a short message about the meaning of CHRISTmas and a lot of people accepted Him as their personal Lord and Savior. Glory be to God! We celebrated life, we shared the love of Christ, and it was indeed a MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

That’s the real meaning of Christmas! To love because He first loved us. To be selfless enough to share the goodness and blessings that we have received and experienced from God! Let’s not think of ourselves; let’s think about somebody’s happiness.
